CA18DET FRESH NEW LOOK!

March 15th, 2012

I figured i would post a teaser pic of engine bay with cam & vc cover mocked up. Soon after this pic was taken i started pulling wire harness and unbolting intake manifold. I have decided to do a full wire tuck with a new harness. I also plan on getting intake manifold cleaned and powdercoated silver as well as redoing pulleys in silver. My goal is to have the cleanest ca18det on the planet. :) j/k

INTERIOR IS 100% COMPLETE!

January 2nd, 2012

Well the only section on the car that is complete is the interior. A big thanks to Southern Truck & Custom for all the hardwork. I had my door card inserts redone in black suede and glovebox door rewrapped in foam and black vinyl. The headliner was refoamed and rewrapped in black cloth. Thanks to SAGE AUTO & TOUGE FACTORY for supplying the BRIDE fabric. I had my JDM S14 seats redone as well as armrest and sunvisors.

Back during the spring i scored some excellent condition OEM NISSAN 180sx floor mats. I picked them up from Dr. Silvia on EBAY. These mats are very heavy and fit amazing compared to some custom knockoffs i had before.

The rest of the interior that was done by myself is located in my build thread which will be updated/ repaired and reposted in SumoSpeed forums.

2012 UPDATES

January 2nd, 2012

I picked up a few parts this fall. i sourced a carbon kevlar roof spoiler which i will be getting it resprayed to tone down the yellow hue. My super rare 180sx rear quarter glass louvres came back home to me :) i sold them a few years ago when i was going to sell the car and the buyer resold them back.

Three months ago i messed around and mocked up my front bumper on the car. I am so glad i bought all new brackets and oem hardware to make this fit perfect. I still need to mount the carbon lip to bumper. I ordered some clips that i think will work. i want it to fit like factory with no zip ties (^_^). I still need to solder in the new light harness…hopefully ill get started on that this week.

2012 UPDATES

January 1st, 2012

Well its been awhile since my last update, but im  ready to start this project back up! i decided to do away with the candy green valve/ cam cover. It looked great under sunlight, but it looked like baby poop under any other light.  I decided to redo those parts in a candy blue since it flows better with other blue parts in the bay and i loved how it looked on my black 240.

Project MAD MAX 240SX DD

June 6th, 2011

Well ive always wanted a 2nd 240 i can drive everyday and beat on the back roads with…so i went down to VA Beach back in JAN and picked this car up from a fellow Sumospeed member.

This will be a serious budget car so ill prob buy all used goods or wait till it breaks and upgrade. I still want car to look good from 5ft away. The car def has some dings and pass quarter panel has been hit and pulled out pretty decent. I will probably look for some cheap overfenders i can rivet on in the near future.
Once im finished with orange 180sx i will pull this car off road and make it into a track car.

I can finally say ive placed my last oem parts order through NISSAN OF CHEASAPEAKE. Finished out my order with new fender liners/ clips/nylon screw bushings and a few other headlight bits/ fuel line clips & muffler bracket & SWAYBAR bushings.

Picked up a new 12 gallon fuel cell with sender and foam inserts for 100.00 from a friend in nova. I also bought a walbro external fuel pump/ w mounting kit tonite for 109.99 shipped…best price anywhere on the web. I still need to get a few connectors, but not too bad considering a new tank/sender/straps/filler neck from NISSAN was over $700.00!  everyone knows i love oem nissan, but sometimes you have to save money where you can.

GOOD BYE 2pc heavy driveshaft! 1pc steel driveshaft showed up to my work today which i also got a super deal on… $299.00 shipped off EBAY.

if anyone is looking for a powdercoat shop in Fredericksburg, VA…check out ACS SOLUTIONS ( 540-898-9370 ). i dropped off my rear swaybar/brackets/ & subframe brace mon and picked them up today.  Noland is a super nice dude and it helps when there is a local shop within 25 miles.

Fresh Rear Brake Setup

January 8th, 2011

I picked up a p/t job at advance auto back in october just to start funding the 240 again. I took advantage of my 20% discount and ordered remanned rear calipers/ new hardware and ceramic pads. I hunted down some caliper brackets through rockauto.com. I need to degrease them and spray with caliper clear to preserve them longer. I also got the rest of my fuel line clips and brackets as well as rubber insulators and caps for rear axle. I always wondered why the old caps where loose and rattled. The rubber insulator cushions against axle nut and makes a snug fit for cap nut. I also resprayed the hubs with S/S high temp spray paint.

Chassis Cancer Removal

January 8th, 2011

Well over new years weekend i did some work on the rear chassis section. I grinded/cut and sanded the area and got rid of all the major rust. Ill let the welder cut what ever else out he sees fit. There was still light surface rust up inside channel which i prepped with Rust Bullet. I painted on one coat and i need to do 1 more over the weekend. Hopefully it will be boxed back in next week so i can finally get subframe installed.
Once all the welding is done ill finish spraying undercoater on that side.

I finally got around to installing some parts last month…not much, but gets them off the shelf. i had local garage service my rear axles and i cleaned off grime/sanded and resprayed. New axles from Advance Auto would have been 150pr…i have less than 90.00 invested. I figured nothing major was wrong with them and i didnt just want to throw away. I also included link to cv boot kits.

http://www.frsport.com/Bay-State-Empi-Rear-C-V–Joint-Boot-Kit-1989-1998-Nissan-240SX_p_9412.html

installed the 12.9 12pt bolts and locking nuts onto axles  from  http://www.ballerbolts.com/24axbokit6bo.html

everything is torqued down to factory spec. i also used grade 8 7/16 bolts on the front of knuckle since it will be visible and it just looks fresh…imo. i also cleaned up some of the factory bolts that were still in great shape… applied wheel clear to them to keep from rusting.

- energy suspension urethane bushings pressed in place

- MOOG Sentra SE-R balljoints

- STANCE J30/Z32 solid Diff bushings

- powdercoated knuckles & RLCA ( NISMO SILVER METALLIC )

im waiting on Fortune-Auto rear suspension arms ( rucas & toe arms ) when they become available to finish my rear setup.

semi-wire tuck/ powered by max HMIC/ powdercoated parts…makes for a very clean bay.
